UC RUSAL is one of the leading aluminium producers in terms of carbon foot printing in aluminium production

90% of the required electricity is provided by renewable energy (hydropower)

Direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions at aluminium smelters were lower than the target value of 6 t equiv. CO2 per tonne of products in 2015. Since 1990 greenhouse gas emissions reduced by more than 50%.

Creation of Russian Aluminium OJSC

2002

RUSAL is the first Russian Company entering the United Nations Global Compact (Network Russia)

2003

Development of the strategy for charitable activities

2004

Adoption of the Occupational Health and Industrial Safety Policy

Launching of first social grant programs ("100 Best Projects", etc.)

2005

Approval of the Corporate Code of Ethics. Adoption of the Regulations on Charitable Activities.

Launching of the employees private donations program. First agreements for social and economic cooperation with the Russian regions.

2006

Adoption of the Quality Policy. The Management Board approved six long-term ecological goals.

2007

Abolishment of Russian Aluminium OJSC. Incorporation of United Company RUSAL (UC RUSAL).

Adoption of Ecological Strategy till 2017. Signing of Protocol for Cooperation with the United Nations: launching of the corporate initiative "Safe Future Strategy". The goal was set to reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions by 50% as related to the level of 1990.

2008

UC RUSAL joined the initiative of the members of the UN Global Compact "Caring for Climate: Business Leaders Platform for Action".

In co-operation with International Aluminium Institute, RUSAL launched the global innovative research program.   

2009

Start of production system formation based on the TPS (Toyota Production System) principles

2010

UC RUSAL became a publicly traded company – IPO at the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong

Opening of the Customer Support Center within the UC RUSAL Business System

The greenhouse gas emission reduction project at Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter was adopted as the Joint Implementation Project within the scope of the Kyoto Protocol

2011

Adoption of the Quality Policy in new edition. Adoption of the Environmental Policy

Opening of the Supplier Development Center within the context of the Quality Management System and Business System of UC RUSAL

2012

Adoption of the Regulations on Risk Management

Adoption of the strategy for social development, start of social programs modernization

Registration of the products in conformity with the requirements of ЕС REACH Regulations

The Company issued the Declaration DRC Conflict Minerals Free Manufacturer.

2014

Adoption of the UC RUSAL Policy Statement in the sphere of occupational health, industrial and fire safety.

Achievement of the goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% up to the level of 1990.

2015

Adoption of the Business Partner Code

UC RUSAL joined to the international initiatives:

-  Responsible planning and management of aluminium production (Aluminium Stewardship Initiative);

-  CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).

The Company has become one of the organizers of the Program "Russian Partnership for Climate Protection".

Creation of the National Council on Corporate Volunteering upon the Company’s initiative.
